WHITLEY COUNTY — One person has died, another suffered internal injuries following a one-vehicle accident at 10:23 a.m. today, Saturday, Oct. 10. The accident occurred at SR 5 and Cleveland Road in Whitley County.
The Whitley County sheriff’s Department reports Veleda I. Shannon, 87, East Third Street, Hartford City, died from injuries in the accident. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by Michael E. Shannon, 64, East Third Street, Hartford City. He suffered internal injuries and was taken to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Witnesses told police Shannon was northbound on SR 5 in a 2003 Chevrolet, in the area of Cleveland Road, when the vehicle went off the road. It is believed the driver over corrected the vehicle, causing it to go off the opposite site of the road. The vehicle rolled over multiple times.
